France boss Didier Deschamps has acknowledged that Romania proved to be "tricky" opponents before his side secured a 2-1 victory in the opening match of Euro 2016.
The host nation appeared to be on course to draw their first fixture in Group A before Dimitri Payet netted a 20-yard strike with a minute remaining of normal time to earn Les Bleus an important win.
However, while admitting his delight after claiming three points, Deschamps praised Romania who held their own throughout the 90 minutes in Paris.
Deschamps is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "It was a tricky match. Romania made it complicated - for the first 20-25 minutes we had a tough time of it. The opening match of a tournament is like playing in a cup final and we were a bit timid.
"But I put four attacking players on to go for the win and I am delighted for the players that they got it."
France are next in action on Wednesday night when they face Albania.
