Fiorentina's Vincenzo Montella vents fury at officials

Montella slams officials

Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella has insisted that he has to speak out against a lack of consistency among officials in Serie A following his side's 1-1 draw with Cagliari.

La Viola were enraged after seeing penalty appeals for a trip on Giuseppe Rossi in stoppage time fall on deaf ears, with Cagliari holding out to claim a point.

David Pizarro was sent off for his protests deep into added time, leading Montella to declare that his side have been unfairly treated on a number of occasions during his time time in Tuscany.

He told Sky Sport Italia: "Since I've been in management I have tried not to comment on refereeing decisions, but I feel the need to say something now.

"I will no longer accept this difference in judging incidents and the lack of uniformity in treatment of some players compared to others. The referee must not be offended, and that's fine, but at least in this you need some sort of uniformity of treatment. These incidents will always cause controversy.

"The penalty you could give or not give, but that wasn't the reason for my anger. I hope my complaint has not gone over the line or offended the refereeing system, which has improved over the years, but I cannot accept this. The referees have pressure and tension, but unfortunately the football system does lose credibility."

Montella also lost Mario Gomez and Juan Cuadrado to injury on a frustrating day for home side, with knee and shoulder injuries respectively.
