Fenerbahce coach Aykut Kocaman resigns

Aykut Kocaman has resigned as coach of Fenerbahce this afternoon, just a week after winning the Turkish Cup final.

Fenerbahce finished 10 points behind bitter rivals Galatasaray in the league and Kocaman handed in his resignation today following a meeting with club chairman Aziz Yildirim.

Kocaman was a firm fan favourite at Fener after winning a Turkish Super Lig and two cups during a three-year spell in charge at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

The 48-year-old also guided Fener to their first ever Europa League semi-final this season, with their historic run in the competition ended by a narrow defeat to Benfica in the last four.

A number of prominent Turkish media sources are reporting that Kocaman disagreed with chairman Yildirim over the club's summer transfer policy and ultimately decided to quit as a result.

Fener confirmed the termination of Kocaman's contract by mutual consent earlier today in a brief statement on the club's official website.
