Roberto Martinez praises Leighton Baines form

Roberto Martinez believes that Leighton Baines is in great form and will be a big help for England in the summer.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has praised the form of his left-back Leighton Baines and believes that he can make a big impact for England in the World Cup this summer.

Martinez said, however, that he was pleased that Baines was rested against Denmark on Wednesday night so that he can be fighting fit for Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final against Arsenal.

"Leighton has been playing really well," BBC Sport quotes Martinez as saying. "[Wednesday's friendly with Denmark] was a great opportunity for the England manager to see other players. We are delighted that he was rested and he can prepare for the game on Saturday.

"He has been such a consistent performer for Everton. When you go into major tournaments experience plays a big part and Leighton is probably at the best moment of his career. Leighton is in the peak of his career to help the national team.

"The full-back position is the most demanding in world football. You need to be able to defend as a unit and they are vital in the final third."

Martinez recently revealed the need for Everton to spend should they qualify for Europe.
