Everton's Romelu Lukaku: 'We should have beaten Liverpool'

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku believes that his side did enough to take more than a point from the Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Goodison Park.

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has claimed that his side deserved to win the Merseyside derby against Liverpool.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw after the Belgian struck on the stroke of half time to cancel out Danny Ings's opener for the Reds.

However, Lukaku believes that his side did enough to win the game as Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet made two fine saves to deny James McCarthy and Steven Naismith at Goodison Park.

Lukaku told Sky Sports News: "We deserved to win today, we controlled the game. Mignolet made some good saves and we should have kept more composure in possession.

"To concede just before half-time was difficult, but we were lucky to score, that was a boost for the second-half. We dominated the game but did not get the shots like we did in the first-half."

Everton are seventh in the Premier League following the draw.
