Dominic Calvert-Lewin says that he "was over the moon" when Wayne Rooney rejoined Everton in the summer and believes that his all-round game has improved as a result.

Everton youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin has insisted that he has become a better all-round player following the arrival of Wayne Rooney in the summer.

Rooney rejoined the Toffees from Manchester United in July after 13 years away, scoring 10 goals in 23 games since making the free transfer.

The ex-England international has also made a big impression on his teammates, as Calvert-Lewin believes that his attacking game has developed as a result of Rooney's return to Goodison Park.

"I was over the moon when I heard he was coming in and I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a bit in awe when he first came in, as any young footballer would be," he told FourFourTwo. "He's helped me quite a lot actually and you need all the help you can get as a young centre-forward in the Premier League.

"He's been explaining the small things about being a striker, but it's the small things that make the big difference and once you put them all together you become a more rounded player. He's taught me a lot about positioning and body shape that has made the game easier."

Calvert-Lewin, who has six goals in 28 appearances this season, committed his long-term future to Everton last week by penning a six-year contract.
