England captain Steven Gerrard has said that he is pleased with his side's performance against Ukraine on Tuesday.

The Three Lions failed to score in Kiev in their World Cup Group H qualifier against the hosts, as the match ended in a goalless draw.

"I don't think it was top class but defensively we were solid," BBC Sport quotes the midfielder as saying. "Before the game the manager said we need to keep it in our hands and it gives us the final two games to win to get through.

"We have a better chance to beat our competitors at Wembley. We always knew Ukraine would push us all the way. We always knew we were going to have to do it the hard way.

"We done the job, I don't think it was top class, but the job was done. I don't think they will be happy with a draw. We don't focus on Ukraine now we focus on Poland and Montenegro. It's a different type of pressure but we are capable of getting the job done."

England are currently at the top of the group with 16 points from eight matches.
