England's forward options please Rooney

Wayne Rooney has spoken of his delight at the goalscoring options available to England manager Roy Hodgson at this present moment in time.

Ahead of Friday's World Cup qualifier against Montenegro, Hodgson has Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Welbeck, Jermain Defoe and Rickie Lambert to select from.

Reflecting on the quality of English strikers, Rooney said that it is best that he has known within the squad since he made his debut in 2003.

"Since I've been in the squad this is probably the best group of forwards we've had. Rickie Lambert has come into the squad and is scoring goals for Southampton and has done really well for England, then you've got Welbeck, Sturridge, Defoe and myself. It's a good blend of forwards," he told reporters.

"Sturridge has been in tremendous form for Liverpool and has scored a lot of goals. He's been given a vote of confidence by his manager, who has trusted him," added the Manchester United frontman.

England head into the match against the Montenegrins top of their qualifying group.
