England will struggle to get through the group stage of the World Cup and are unlikely to be in the tournament by the latter stages, the UK government has said.
A Home Office assessment today presented to the House of Lords on extended pub licensing hours said that there was a "high probability" that England will not be in the tournament past the quarter-final stage.
Using information from Betfair, the Home Office said that there was a 54% chance that England will get through the group, which contains Uruguay, Italy and Costa Rica, and an 11% chance they would go past the quarter-finals.
The Three Lions lost to Germany at the last-16 stage in South Africa four years ago.
