Ryan Shawcross: 'No frustration if I retire without England return'

Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross has admitted that he would feel no "frustration" if he does not return to the England fold before he retires.

The 27-year-old was overlooked by manager Roy Hodgson for this week's Euro 2016 qualifiers against San Marino and Estonia.

Potters boss Mark Hughes expressed his surprise at the snub due to Shawcross's impressive form for his club.

However, the player himself is relaxed about his international future.

"It doesn't bother me if I don't get picked," The Sentinel quotes Shawcross as saying. "If I get picked, brilliant, if I don't, it doesn't really bother me.

"My form over last season and the start of this season, I'm pleased with it. All I can do is keep clean sheets and win games for Stoke.

"If I don't get into the England squad until I retire I will have no frustration. I'm just happy to be playing."

Shawcross has just one England cap to his name.
