England manager Roy Hodgson reveals that either Wayne Rooney or Frank Lampard will captain their country against Republic of Ireland.

Manager Roy Hodgson has suggested that Wayne Rooney or Frank Lampard will replace Steven Gerrard as captain for England's upcoming friendlies.

Defender Ashley Cole had indicated that he did not wish to skipper his side as he celebrates his 100th cap, leaving Hodgson to look for a temporary leader elsewhere.

The former Fulham boss told reporters: "Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney are captains-elect."

Liverpool midfielder Gerrard is missing the fixtures with Republic of Ireland and Brazil due to a shoulder injury.
