Fabio Capello believes that he would have taken England into the semi-finals of Euro 2012 as opposed to Roy Hodgson, who failed in the quarter-finals.

New Russia manager Fabio Capello has claimed that he would have done a better job with England than Roy Hodgson at Euro 2012.

The Italian coach, who completed a two-year deal with the Russian national side yesterday, dropped down from his post with the Three Lions in February after Chelsea defender John Terry was stripped of the England captaincy following racism allegations.

"If I were with [England] during the European Championships, it would have been even better," said Capello. "We had qualified for the finals and it was only the John Terry story that meant I couldn't go to the finals."

England could not progress past the quarter-finals in Poland and Ukraine after coming unstuck against Italy.
