Sam Allardyce remains silent on England captaincy

England boss Sam Allardyce says that he will not announce who will be captain of the Three Lions until the days leading up to their clash with Slovakia.

Manager Sam Allardyce has insisted that no announcement regarding the England captaincy will be made until next week.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has held the position since August 2014 but after replacing Roy Hodgson as the boss of the Three Lions, Allardyce has said that he will not reveal who will skipper the side until the days leading up to their World Cup qualifier away in Slovakia.

The 61-year-old told Sky Sports News: "We'll announce the squad and then we will meet up. The first thing that I will choose to tell the public will be who is going to be the captain so that we can get that one out of the way first. The team selection will be later in the week."

Allardyce has also confirmed that Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart will be in the squad when it is announced on Sunday.
