UEFA to beef up security at Euro 2016 following crowd trouble

UEFA confirms plans to tighten security at Euro 2016 following fan violence.

UEFA has confirmed plans to tighten up security at Euro 2016 matches after crowd violence marred England's 1-1 draw with Russia.

The governing body is implementing "corrective measures" in a bid to ensure that there will not be a repeat of Saturday evening's incident in Marseille, which saw fighting break out in and outside of the stadium.

Reports indicate that a group of Russian supporters rushed their England counterparts after the full-time whistle of the 1-1 draw in Marseille, an incident that is said to have left a number of fans hospitalised.

Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko has claimed that the incident was the result of inappropriate security at the venue and the failure to segregate rival supporters.

However, Mutko has welcomed the news that UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against his county's football association, calling it "the right decision".
