Manchester United's Chris Smalling wants Roy Hodgson to extend England contract

Smalling wants Hodgson to carry on

England defender Chris Smalling has called on the Football Association to extend Roy Hodgson's contract with the national team.

Hodgson, who has been England boss since May 2012, is due to leave the position when his contract expires after next year's Euro 2016 finals in France.

Smalling spoke to the press ahead of Tuesday's friendly with Italy and, like teammate Fabian Delph, wants the 67-year-old to stay on.

"Ever since I've worked with Roy he's been one that's shown a lot of faith in all the players, especially the young players. We've all enjoyed our training with him," said Smalling.

Smalling has 15 caps at international level for the Three Lions and will be hoping to feature in Turin on Tuesday, especially as Hodgson has said that he will experiment.
