Peter Shilton believes that Scott Parker, Glen Johnson and Steven Gerrard need to improve on the defensive aspect of their game.

England legend Peter Shilton believes that Roy Hodgson's squad need to improve on their defensive qualities ahead of tonight's final Group D game against Ukraine.

The Three Lions need a point to qualify for the quarter-finals of the tournament, but Shilton believes that Glen Johnson, Scott Parker and skipper Steven Gerrard need to "defend properly".

"Glen Johnson has to concentrate a bit better and I think Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker, in particular, have really got to get their defensive hats on and start to defend properly," Shilton told BBC Radio Five Live.

"I think we have looked a little bit vulnerable in that area, but in a lot of other areas we have shown a lot of ability and a lot of determination, which is what fans want to see. We are very capable of winning tonight and progressing, at least to the semi-finals."

Meanwhile, France take on Sweden in the other Group D clash of the evening.
