Saido Berahino: 'Call-up to England Under-21 Euros squad is extra special'

West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino admits that it feels "extra special" to be included in the England Under-21s for the Euros this summer.

West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino has admitted that being included in the England Under-21s for this summer's European Championships in the Czech Republic is "extra special".

The forward was named in Gareth Southgate's 27-man provisional squad yesterday and is tipped to make the final 23-man party.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has also been included in the squad, despite initial fitness concerns from his club manager Mauricio Pochettino.

"I'm always proud and privileged to play for England and this is extra special," Berahino told West Brom's official website. "It's going to be an incredible experience for the squad.

"I really enjoyed the campaign to qualify and you can see from the names on the list that there is plenty of talent in our ranks.

"It's going to make it a long season but I hope that I'm still playing at the end of June because that will mean I made the final 23-man squad and we have gone deep into the tournament. I think we're good enough to do that."

Meanwhile, young Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek was handed his first U21 call-up.
