Elche earn first win of season over Rayo Vallecano

Elche earn a 3-2 win at Rayo Vallecano to pick up their first victory of the new La Liga season.

Elche have earned their first win of the new La Liga season thanks to a 3-2 victory at Rayo Vallecano.

The visitors took the lead on 37 minutes when Edu Albacar's low free kick found the bottom corner, but Vallecano equalised on the stroke of half time through Gael Kakuta's solo effort.

Elche regained the advantage 10 minutes after the restart as Jonathas capped a powerful run by firing past goalkeeper Cristian Alvarez from 25 yards.

The away side extended their lead 20 minutes from time when Pedro Mosquera's long-range drive sneaked into the far corner.

Vallecano pulled a goal back in injury time through Alberto Bueno's penalty, after Albacar was punished for handling the ball, but the hosts were unable to find an equaliser in the final stages.
