Elche relegated from La Liga over unpaid debts, Eibar reinstated

Elche kicked out of La Liga over unpaid debts

Elche have been relegated from La Liga due to unpaid debts to the tax authorities.

Los Franjiverdes finished the season in 13th place in the league table, six points above the drop zone.

However, they have been punished for breaching league rules and will now be replaced in the top flight by Eibar, who suffered relegation on the final day of the season by virtue of goal difference.

Elche have previously made it clear that they would appeal any decision if they were kicked out of the league, insisting that any tax debts will be settled in full by the end of next month.
