Davies a done deal for Dundee

The veteran centre-back joins from Hartlepool.

Dundee boss Jim McIntyre has continued his Ross County reunion at Dens Park after signing Andrew Davies.

The former Staggies skipper is the third of McIntyre's former Dingwall charges to join their old boss on Tayside after Martin Woods and Craig Curran.

The 34-year-old centre-half – who has signed an 18-month deal – was part of the County squad which won the 2015/16 League Cup but was then relegated from the Ladbrokes Premiership last term.

Davies started his career with then Premier League outfit Middlesbrough in 2002 before moving on to stints with Southampton, Stoke and Bradford and then moving north to County in 2015.

He moved to Hartlepool after the Highland outfit lost their battle for survival last season but has called time on his stint at Victoria Park after just 13 appearances.

Meanwhile, McIntyre has continued his January clear-out by releasing Lewis Spence.

The new Dundee manager admits an overhaul of the squad he inherited from Neil McCann is required as he attempts to steer the Dark Blues away from relegation danger.

Loanees Calvin Miller and Andy Boyle have already been sent back to parent clubs Celtic and Preston, Adil Nabi has joined OFI Crete, while Marcus Haber has been released.

Now Spence, who is being linked with a move to Ross County, has become the latest departure after Dens Park chiefs confirmed they had agreed to rip up the 22-year-old former Dunfermline midfielder's contract.

In a statement, the club said: "Dundee Football Club can confirm that Lewis Spence has left the club by mutual consent.

"Lewis signed for the club in the summer of 2017 and played a total of 37 times over the last season-and-a-half.

"We would like to thank Lewis for his efforts while at Dens and wish him all the best for the future."

He is likely to be followed out by Sofien Moussa, Elton Ngwatala and Kharl Madianga, while Glen Kamara could also push through his Rangers move this month having already signed a pre-contract with the Ibrox outfit.
