Dagenham & Redbridge advance into FA Cup third round

Dagenham & Redbridge came from behind to beat National League South side Whitehawk 3-2 after extra time in their FA Cup second-round replay on Wednesday evening.

Danny Mills sent the home supporters into jubilation in the 32nd minute when he scored the game's opening goal, but Dagenham improved as play developed and were level late in the first half through Kyle Vassell, before leading in the 77th minute through Joshua Passley.

Passley's strike looked to have secured Dagenham's spot in round three in normal time, but the hosts had other ideas as Argentine Juan Gotta scored a 93rd-minute equaliser to send the match into extra time and keep their hopes alive of earning a visit to Everton in round three.

The match was decided without the need for a shootout, but it was heartbreak for semi-professional side Whitehawk, who play in the sixth tier of English football, as Ayo Obileye netted in the 100th minute from a corner to send the League Two outfit into the next round.

Dagenham, who finished the match with 10 men following a late red card for James Dunne, will travel to Premier League side Everton in round three early next month.
