Coventry City picked up a crucial three points by beating Bristol City in a basement battle at the Ricoh Arena this afternoon.
The Sky Blues were eight points adrift of safety before the game, but a goal from Gary Deegan earned them a vital win to move them within five points of their opponents.
Despite their lowly league position, the home side dominated the majority of the game and had chances to take the lead in the first half.
Richie Williams's header from Gary Mcsheffery's corner was cleared off the line before Carl Baker wasted a good opportunity from close range.
However under-fire manager Andy Thorn cooled some of the pressure levelled at him by bringing on Deegan, who finally broke the deadlock with 72 minutes played.
After Richard Wood's free kick was blocked, the substitute smashed home from 10 yards to earn Coventry their first win in 11 league games.
