Draw enough for Granada in Copa del Rey

Granada edge through to the last 16 of the Copa del Rey after defying being reduced to 10 men to earn a 1-1 draw with Cordoba.

A second-half goal from Diego Mainz has earned Granada a 1-1 draw at Corboda, allowing his side to progress through to the last 16 of the Copa del Rey 2-1 on aggregate.

Ahead of the second leg, Granada led by a single goal but it took just five minutes for Cordoba to get back on level terms through Florin Andone, who headed high into the net from a Fede Vico cross.

With just a place separating the two teams in La Liga the contest was always going to be competitive, and Granada edged the following 15 minutes with Eddy firing wide of the target from 25 yards.

Despite over 45 minutes of football remaining, the game developed into an end-to-end contest with Lopez Silva and Javi Marquez both going close for their respective sides before the interval.

Soon after the restart, the visitors almost moved back in front on aggregate when Allan Nyom drilled a shot on target but his low strike was well dealt with by Mikel Saizar.

However, the goal did arrive on 61 minutes when defender Mainz got on the end of a free kick to head powerfully into the roof of the net from eight yards out.

Five minutes later, though, Cordoba were handed a lifeline, as well as a man advantage, after Marquez was given his marching orders after a late challenge.

Requiring two goals to go through, Cordoba pushed forward but after Xisco saw several attempts fail to beat goalkeeper Oier Olazabal, the visitors were able to celebrate a place in the next round of the competition.
