Chris Lewington leaves Colchester United

Colchester United have announced that goalkeeper Chris Lewington has left the club by mutual consent.

The 27-year-old made two appearances for the League One side after arriving at the Colchester Community Stadium last summer.

"We got towards the end of the transfer window and he decided that it's best for him to look for pastures new," manager Tony Humes told BBC Sport. "I'm not sure he has anywhere lined up just yet, but we were keen to honour our agreement."

Colchester are back in action on September 12 when they travel to Chesterfield in the league.
