Late Kekuta Manneh strike spares Vancouver Whitecaps' blushes

Kekuta Manneh struck an 81st-minute equaliser to earn Vancouver Whitecaps a point against 10-men Chivas USA at the Stub Hub Center this morning.

Wilmer Cabrera's men, who could have moved top of the MLS Western Conference with a win, faced a sizeable task if they were to ascend to the summit after midfielder Agustin Pelletieri was dismissed after only 13 minutes.

Despite the numerical advantage, though, the hosts pounced in the closing stages of the first half and snatched an unlikely lead through Erick Torres.

Torres's strike had proved the difference between the sides until Manneh spared Vancouver's blushes and equalised with nine minutes of normal time remaining, converting a Darren Mattocks pass to secure a point for the Whitecaps.
