Preview: Chesterfield vs. Woking - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's National League clash between Chesterfield and Woking, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Chesterfield's bid to finish inside the National League playoff spots will be taken to the final day as the Spireites host mid-table Woking, with a win securing a place in the top seven.

Woking's season has trundled towards a disappointing end, but they will be keen to halt Chesterfield's playoff party on the league's final day.

Despite their best efforts to drop out of the top seven, Chesterfield remain in pole position to secure the final playoff position, with the Derbyshire side only needing a win to secure their place.

Defeat to Stockport County on Bank Holiday Monday was followed up by another loss away to Torquay United at the weekend, with it looking like the Spireites had blown their chance to qualify for the playoffs.

Unable to take advantage of Chesterfield's woes, Dagenham & Redbridge's disappointing 3-1 defeat away to 10-man Solihull Moors denied the Daggers a chance to jump into the playoffs.

Dagenham's superior goal difference does mean that they would leapfrog Chesterfield should the Spireites fail to beat Woking.

However, a home fixture against title-chasing Wrexham leaves Dagenham's chances of three points looking slim, with Chesterfield looking like they have one foot in the playoffs already.

Looking to hold up their end of the bargain and maintain Dagenham's hopes by defeating Chesterfield will be Woking, whose mediocre campaign has come to a spluttering end.

Entering the season with plenty of optimism around the club, a measly mid-table finish will not have impressed the Woking faithful, whose attention has already switched towards next season.

Two wins from their previous six matches has blighted their end-of-season form, with Woking having at one point been worried about slipping into a relegation battle.

Having triumphed over Chesterfield earlier in the campaign, an unlikely league double stands before Woking, who will be keen to capitalise on the Spireites' poor form.

A bullish 4-0 win in this fixture last season will inspire confidence in Chesterfield's chances, who hold the cards in the National League playoff race.

Team News

The absence of Kabongo Tshimanga has cost Chesterfield dearly, with the striker's 24 goals still enough to lead the National League golden boot race, despite having been out injured since mid-February.

Tom Denton will likely lead the line in his place, with attacking support coming off the bench in the shape of Danny Rowe.

Sent off in their weekend defeat against Eastleigh, Jamar Loza will enjoy an early holiday, with the Woking forward set to miss the final game of the season.

Likely to hold their biggest attacking threat, Inih Effiong will look to cause the Chesterfield backline problems on an afternoon where Dagenham supporters will be hoping that the visitors can cause an upset.

Chesterfield possible starting lineup:
Loach; Whittle, Williams, Oyeleke, Grimes; Gunning, King, Weston, Mandeville; Quigley, Denton

Woking possible starting lineup:
Ross; Diarra, Longe-King, Roles, Champion; Casey, Kretzschmar, Anderson, Ince; Effiong, Johnson

We say: Chesterfield 2-0 Woking

Chesterfield have lost their last three matches, but surprisingly still hold a chance of winning promotion to League Two.

While they may not hold the momentum in the playoff race, expect them to get the job done against an out-of-sorts Woking side.
