Which summer transfer windows are still open – and who can still change clubs?

The transfer window has now closed across Europe’s top five leagues, but that does not mean the market has come to a complete standstill. Clubs in various countries still have time to negotiate player departures and reduce their wage bills, as several leagues continue to accept registrations throughout September.

The Bundesliga's transfer window was the first to end, coming to a close on 31 August, while the remaining top four European leagues closed throughout Tuesday evening, with Serie A's deadline at 8pm local time, the Premier League and Ligue 1 at 11pm local time and La Liga's finalising at midnight local time.

While the windows are now closed for incomings, clubs can still allow players to leave for leagues where the windows remain open, including multiple leagues that have attracted a number of players in recent years.

Which countries still have active transfer windows?

A number of markets across Europe, the Middle East and the Americas will remain active, with some remaining open until much later this month while others have just days remaining to complete their business.

The deadline for the Netherlands is just before midnight on 2 September, Scotland's summer transfer window will come to a close at 5pm on 3 September, while Portuguese teams will have longer to finalise their summer business, with their transfer window not coming to a close until 15 September.

Major League Soccer (MLS) closes its window on 2 September, while Mexico and Brazil have just over a week longer until their transfer deadline, with the window open until 11 September.

Turkish clubs have been big players in the transfer window in recent years, making several high-profile and expensive transfers, and they will have until 4 September to sort out their final transfers of the summer window.

However, the standout case is the Saudi Pro League, which, like Turkey, has spent heavily in recent years, and they will be allowed to continue their spending until 12 October, leaving plenty of time to attract players to the league.

Recent exits and players still in limbo

While deadline day has come and gone across Europe's top five leagues, there are numerous outgoings that are still yet to be confirmed to leagues that still have time to complete transfers.

Gabriel Martinelli is arguably the highest profile move yet to be finalised, with the winger set to join Al-Hilal for an expected £60m fee from Premier League champions Arsenal.

There are also countless players who are still without a club that could make a move in the coming days, including the likes of Jadon Sancho, Riyad Mahrez, Mauro Icardi, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial.
