Chelsea tell midfielder Frank Lampard that he can leave the club in January, according to reports.

Chelsea will allow Frank Lampard to leave Stamford Bridge in January if the midfielder can find a new club, according to reports.

The 34-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season and he has been told that he will not be offered the opportunity to extend his 11-year stay at Chelsea.

A Chelsea insider told The Sun: "Frank is absolutely distraught. He wants to keep playing for Chelsea but they've told him to find another club in the January transfer window.

"He can't believe it. All he wants to do is play for Chelsea. This club means everything to him."

Lampard scored for Chelsea on Sunday as they secured an emphatic 8-0 victory over Aston Villa.
