Raul Meireles: 'Dirk Kuyt advised me to join Fenerbahce'

Raul Meireles has revealed that former Liverpool teammate Dirk Kuyt advised him to join Fenerbahce.

The Portuguese midfielder signed for the Turkish club from Chelsea last month, following in the footsteps of Kuyt who had moved in June.

"Maybe people were a bit surprised, but I knew that I joined a very big club," Meireles told Lig TV. "Fenerbahce are the biggest team in Turkey. "I spoke with Kuyt and he advised me to accept the offer and make the move."

Meireles spent a year at Liverpool before he joined Chelsea in summer 2011.
