Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group – led by John W Henry – reportedly promise that funds will be available to improve the squad in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group – led by John W Henry – have reportedly promised that funds will be available to improve the squad in the summer transfer window.

Henry revealed on Monday that FSG are not looking to sell the Reds amid numerous rumours surrounding a possible takeover.

"Yes. I know there has been a lot of conversation and quotes about LFC (Liverpool Football Club), but I keep to the facts: we merely formalized an ongoing process," the 73-year-old said as quoted by the Boston Sports Journal.

"Will we be in England forever? No. Are we selling LFC? No. Are we talking with investors about LFC? Yes. Will something happen there? I believe so, but it won't be a sale. Have we sold anything in the past 20+ years?"

The news comes after Liverpool chairman Tom Werner revealed at the end of last year that FSG – who purchased the Merseysiders for £300m in 2010 – were "exploring a sale".

Despite rumours of a number of Middle-Eastern investors taking an interest in buying Liverpool, including a joint Saudi-Qatari consortium, FSG are now expected to stick around for a while longer.

According to The Times, via the Liverpool Echo, manager Jurgen Klopp has the full support of Henry, and "funds will be made available to make changes to the squad" this summer.

Since the appointment of Klopp in 2015, FSG have witnessed Liverpool win seven trophies, including the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Club World Cup.

After coming close to an unprecedented quadruple last season, Liverpool splashed the cash on Benfica striker Darwin Nunez last summer, agreeing a deal which could rise to a club-record £85m.

Fabio Carvalho, Calvin Ramsey and Arthur – on loan – were also brought in, but a number of injuries and a loss of form has led to the Reds enduring a difficult 2022-23 campaign, with Klopp's side currently sitting eighth in the Premier League and seven points behind the top four, albeit with two games in hand.

Liverpool strengthened their attack in January with the £37m acquisition of Cody Gakpo, but the club's supporters were pleading for winter-window additions to be made in centre-midfield.

The Reds are expected to be one of a number of top European clubs battling for the signature of Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham this summer, while the likes of Chelsea's Mason Mount and Brighton & Hove Albion's Moises Caicedo have also been linked with a switch to Anfield.

Liverpool's transfer activity will likely depend on whether they qualify for next season's Champions League, but nevertheless, Klopp has insisted that changes must be made to his first-team squad if they wish to compete on all fronts.

Asked about the prospect of signing Bellingham during an interview with Sky Sports News last week, Klopp said: "You talk about Jude, that's a different subject, but in general it always makes things more difficult.

"But we are still Liverpool, we're a big club, and it's not that we can do nothing. We will have transfer business, obviously. We have to, 100% clear. In the summer, we have to make changes and everybody knows that.

"It will happen, but how much? That's not in my hands. We are obviously in constant talks so everybody knows exactly what we need."

Liverpool are currently preparing for a mouth-watering contest against Real Madrid, with the two European giants locking horns at Anfield for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday.
