Chelsea boss Antonio Conte suggests that the club will make a decision over whether an approach is made for West Ham United forward Andy Carroll.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has suggested that he will not make the final decision over whether an approach is made for West Ham United forward Andy Carroll.

On Thursday, a report claimed that the Blues were interested in signing Carroll during the January transfer window, speculation which was news to Hammers boss David Moyes.

When quizzed over the alleged interest, Conte did not deny that he was looking for a new forward, but hinted that he would not choose who would be added to his squad.

The 48-year-old told reporters: "I don't know. I gave my opinion to the club but the club then decides the players we can buy or sell.

"The club signs the players, not me. Recommending is not my job. The club will try do their best to improve this team. I'm a coach and I give my opinion if the club asks for something. The club then decides on the players to arrive here or who to buy or sell."

Alvaro Morata is currently struggling for form in front of goal, while Michy Batshuayi has mainly been used off the bench and in cup competitions.
