Atletico 'keen to sign Cesar Azpilicueta this summer'

Atletico Madrid could attempt to sign Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta this summer, according to a report.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta this summer.

The 31-year-old has been a key player for the Blues during the 2020-21 campaign, contributing one goal and two assists in 35 appearances in all competitions.

Azpilicueta's current deal at Stamford Bridge is due to expire next summer, though, meaning that, as it stands, he will be free to enter into talks with foreign clubs from January 2022.

A recent report claimed that Thomas Tuchel's side were preparing to open contract discussions with the Spaniard, who has made 22 Premier League appearances this term.

However, according to El Gol Digital, Atletico want to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding his future by launching a bid during this summer's transfer window.

Azpilicueta has shown his versatility by operating as a right-back, a centre-back and a right-sided wing-back since Tuchel's arrival at the club earlier this year.
