Chelsea have confirmed the loan signing of Brighton & Hove Albion playmaker Facundo Buonanotte.
The Blues are currently attempting to facilitate a number of outgoings during the final hours of the summer transfer window, including the likes of Nicolas Jackson and unwanted duo Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling.
However, reports have persisted in recent days regarding a surprise approach for Buonanotte, who spent last season on loan at Leicester City.
Although it was initially perceived that Buonanotte could quickly link up with fellow BlueCo-owned club Strasbourg, it became apparent that the 20-year-old was in line to become a member of Enzo Maresca's squad.
On Monday afternoon, the world champions announced that the Argentina international had signed on the dotted line.
Buonanotte reacts to Chelsea transfer
Speaking to the club's official website, Buonanotte acknowledged that he had been given "a great opportunity" to make an impact at the West Londoners.
He said: "I’m very happy to join Chelsea. It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m just looking to add as much to the squad as possible, help the team and help the staff.’
Although not confirmed by Chelsea, it has been widely reported that it is a straight-loan deal.
Buonanotte becomes Chelsea's 11th senior signing of the summer, although some of the players acquired have departed on loan.
Under-valued Premier League experience
Despite being just 20 years of age and having dropped down the pecking order at Brighton, Buonanotte has plenty of Premier League experience.
He has returned a total of nine goals and four assists from 71 appearances in the divisions, seven of which came in Leicester's relegation campaign in 2024-25.
His potential has also been recognised by his country with two caps being earned for Argentina, albeit the last of those coming in March 2024.
Buonanotte will start life at Chelsea as a backup squad member, but the pending exit of Tyrique George could see him featured among the replacements against Brentford after the international break.
