Sturridge has no fitness concerns

Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge has admitted that it is "more difficult" to play for England if you are not playing regular club football.

The 22-year-old, speaking ahead of England's clash with Sweden on Wednesday, also praised Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson for handing him a chance despite limited action for the Blues this season.

"It is a huge opportunity for me. The manager has showed faith in me to pick me so it will be a huge opportunity," he told reporters.

"I think it is a lot more difficult when you are not playing regularly but I try and train as hard as I possibly can and wait for the opportunity and I am thankful for the England manager choosing me for this friendly.

"It would be fantastic for the manager to choose me to play from the start. If I could showcase my abilities it would be fantastic and hopefully I would be as sharp as I possibly can be. If I don't start it would not be a huge blow. Any minutes would be welcome for me."

Sturridge is yet to start an international match for his country.
