Jose Mourinho "not surprised" by failed Thibaut Courtois appeal

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits that he did not expect Thibaut Courtois's red card to be rescinded, despite the club appealing against his sending-off.

Jose Mourinho has admitted that he was "not surprised" to see Chelsea's appeal against Thibaut Courtois's red card rejected.

The goalkeeper was sent off for a challenge on Bafetimbi Gomis during Swansea City's 2-2 draw with the Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge last weekend, leaving him suspended for this weekend's clash with Manchester City.

"No, I am not surprised. I am not surprised because normally I know we are not normally successful in these," BT Sport quotes the manager as saying.

"Normally we are not successful and normally the committees they support the referee decisions so when the referee decides that it is a red card, normally 99% of the time the committees don't go against the decision and they support the referees' decision. So I never thought he could be available."

Oscar could also miss the trip to the Etihad after picking up a knock in training.
