Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho: 'Liverpool's summer signings have potential'

Jose Mourinho believes that Liverpool have "potential" after they "invested very good" in the squad following Luis Suarez's exit in the summer.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that Liverpool invested well in the summer following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers sealed the signatures of nine new players, including Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Mario Balotelli, after selling prolific Suarez to the Spanish giants for a reported £75m fee.

Divock Origi is one of Liverpool's new recruits, but will not join up with the team until he finishes his season-long loan stint at former club Lille.

While Rodgers's eight new signings are yet to hit the ground running, Mourinho believes that there is "potential" among the squad.

"Obviously [Suarez is] a very good player and when you lose a good player you lose something, but they had fantastic funds to invest in a new squad," Mourinho told reporters.

"They improve it a lot, they bought so many important players, all of them internationals. So they invested very good and I think their potential is there.

"In the Premier League, I am not surprised with anything. Every match is difficult, you don't know when people are going to lose points."

Chelsea head into tomorrow's clash at Anfield sitting at the top of the Premier League table, 12 points above Liverpool.
