Antonio Conte: 'David Luiz is a centre-back'

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte suggests that he will use David Luiz as a centre-back after the Brazilian rejoined the Blues at the end of the transfer window.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has said that he intends to use David Luiz as a centre-back after he made his return to Stamford Bridge.

Just hours before the end of the transfer window, Luiz signed for Chelsea for a second time after spending two years at Paris Saint-Germain, and the Brazilian has insisted that he is prepared to play in a number of positions.

However, Conte has insisted that he will not take advantage of Luiz's versatility and instead play the 29-year-old in the centre of defence.

The Italian told Chelsea TV: "I think David Luiz is a centre-back, he's played a lot of games in that position.

"I know sometimes he's played as a central midfielder but in my mind the idea is to utilise him in the right position which, for me, is centre-back. He's played with Chelsea previously and he will bring a good personality."

Luiz could feature when Chelsea play Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
