Cesc Fabregas calls for improved Champions League showing from Chelsea

Cesc Fabregas calls for Chelsea to mount a sustained push for Champions League success this coming season.

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has called for the side to mount a sustained push for Champions League success this season.

The Premier League champions were eliminated at the last-16 stage by Paris Saint-Germain in March, and the Spain international wants to see an improved showing in Europe's premier competition this term.

The Mirror quotes Fabregas as saying: "I always say that the Champions League was the one disappointment from last season.

"I gave the team a seven or an eight (out of 10) for the year, but to complete a top, top season we needed to do better in the Champions League.

"Unfortunately we went out in the last 16 on away goals, we didn't actually lose the game. But we do have to play better in the Champions League this season."

Chelsea begin the defence of their crown against Swansea City next month.
