Cesar Azpilicueta hails Chelsea "spirit"

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has said that his side's come-from-behind victory over Watford this afternoon demonstrated their fighting "spirit".

The Blues had found themselves 2-1 down against the Hornets at Stamford Bridge thanks to Roberto Pereyra's goal just after the break, but Michy Batshuayi levelled the scores with just under 20 minutes left on the clock.

Azpilicueta put the hosts back ahead with three minutes of normal time remaining, Batshuayi then making sure of the three points deep into stoppage time.

The result ended a run of three games without a win in all competitions and, while admitting that it was not Chelsea's finest ever victory, Azpilicueta stressed the importance of regaining a winning feeling.

"We left it very late and we all had to dig in until the last minute - we showed our spirit," he told Sky Sports News after the final whistle. "It wasn't our best win but it was important to get back to winning ways.

"We started really well and had chances to score a second but then conceded with the last kick of the first half. The confidence is a bit low and that didn't help us. But we didn't give up and it was a big win for us.

"We went three games without winning and we have had difficult games so it was important to get back in the Premier League to winning ways.

"We know it is a long season and we will have ups and downs, we have had a difficult period and this is the first step."

The result saw Chelsea move six points behind leaders Manchester City ahead of the Citizens' encounter with Burnley this afternoon.
