How Chelsea could line up against Tottenham Hotspur

Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up for Tuesday night's EFL Cup fourth round trip to face London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Frank Lampard will be looking to get one over on his old mentor Jose Mourinho once again on Tuesday when his Chelsea side face Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

The Blues travel to North London off the back of a 3-3 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday - a disappointing result on the face of it but one which could have been significantly worse after they fell three goals down inside 27 minutes.

Lampard will be demanding more from his side for this derby, though, as they look to exploit a Spurs schedule which sees them play three times in the space of just five days.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up for the contest.

Chelsea have far less need to rotate than their overworked hosts, but changes are still expected due to both the priority level of the EFL Cup and the performance level at the weekend.

The defensive line in particular could be entirely different to the one which shipped three goals in an error-strewn horror half-hour at the Hawthorns on Saturday, including a debut for new signing Edouard Mendy.

The goalkeeper was not deemed ready for the weekend as Kepa Arrizabalaga was dropped and Willy Caballero took his place, but Lampard may see an EFL Cup match as a good opportunity to give his side's newest arrival his first taste of English football.

Captain Cesar Azpilicueta, Fikayo Tomori, Kurt Zouma and Ben Chilwell could also come into the defence - the latter for his full Chelsea debut - with Thiago Silva and Marcos Alonso likely to sit out having been particularly culpable for the West Brom goals.

Other players who have been on the fringes recently, such as Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Olivier Giroud and Callum Hudson-Odoi - the latter of whom scored off the bench against the Baggies - will also be hopeful of a start.

Kai Havertz scored a hat-trick in the last round and could keep his place as a result, although he has started all of Chelsea's games so far this season and so may be due a rest.

Tuesday's match is expected to come just too soon for Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, while Billy Gilmour and Marco van Ginkel are longer-term absentees.
