Chelsea will still receive their prize money from reaching the Champions League quarter-finals, despite the sanctions which are currently in place.

Chelsea are due to receive their Champions League prize money at the end of the season, despite the sanctions which have been enforced over the past week.

The British government have prevented the Premier League club from generating revenue through their traditional streams as they stop owner Roman Abramovich from making a profit.

Earlier this week, it was also revealed that the European Union would be sanctioning the Russian billionaire, who has linked to Russia president Vladimir Putin.

However, despite the ongoing situation and restrictions which are in place, Chelsea will still receive their prize money from European football's premier competition.

As it stands, the defending champions are in line to receive £8.9m from UEFA, with the possibility of more being added to that if they progress past the quarter-finals.

With Chelsea's cash in the bank allegedly only lasting for a number of weeks as they bid to avoid any extra debt, it may prove to be a crucial boost at a time when candidates to buy the club are making formal approaches.
