Chelsea's Champions League clash with Lille in danger of being called off?

Chelsea clash with Lille in danger of being called off?

Chelsea's upcoming Champions League match with Lille is in danger of being called off, according to a report.

The Blues are set to face the French outfit tomorrow away from home, currently boasting a 2-0 lead in this round of 16 fixture, with a place in the quarter-finals on the line.

However, because club owner Roman Abramovich has now been sanctioned by the EU, the upcoming fixture has a genuine risk of being called off, as they may now need a similar licence that they are using in the UK, which is a deal with the government to allow the team to keep playing.

L'Equipe have reported that this documentation is 'necessary' for Chelsea, in order for them to play in France, but it was also mentioned that they might be granted by the authorities for 'sporting fairness'.

Currently, UEFA are said to be confident that this fixture will be going ahead on Wednesday, which will see no change to the competition format or plans.

Chelsea are the reigning Champions League winners, and have since gone on to win the Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
