Northumberland non-league club to receive £100,000 from £10m sale of Fraser Forster

Northumberland non-league outfit Stocksfield FC are to receive £100,000 from Celtic's sale of Fraser Forster to Southampton for £10m.

A non-league outfit based in Northumberland is set to receive a six-figure slice of a transfer fee from Celtic's sale of Fraser Forster to Southampton.

The former Newcastle United youth goalkeeper started his career at Stocksfield FC and played for the side for seven years between the age of eight and 15.

When the Hoops sold the player to the South Coast club for £10m, Stocksfield thought that they might be in line for a small windfall, but they have now discovered that they will receive £100,000.

Secretary and coach Phil Murray told BBC Sport: "It's unbelievable, we're so excited thinking how a small club in rural Northumberland has managed to get hold of this - we're absolutely delighted."

The club claimed the money under FIFA's compensation system which means any club fielding a player from the age of 12 gets a cut of later transfer fees.
