Celtic executive Peter Lawwell elected to European board

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell is elected to be a member of the European Club Association board.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has been elected to the main executive board of the European Club Association.

Lawwell joins Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, AC Milan's Umberto Gandini, Ajax's Edwin van der Sar and Ivan Gazidis of Arsenal on the board.

The 54-year-old was delighted to have landed his new role and hopes that it can benefit both Celtic and Scottish football as a whole.

"This is a tremendous honour and a role which I very much look forward to undertaking," Lawwell told Celtic's official website.

"European football is an ever-changing landscape and from the perspective of Celtic, it is vital that we ensure we are at the heart of the action and at the centre of discussions regarding the development of the game.

"As we look to the future, I look forward to representing Celtic, Scottish clubs and the other clubs in Europe to ensure that the voice of these clubs and their supporters is heard."

The European Club Association is the only independent body that directly represents football clubs at European level.
