Team News: Kyogo Furuhashi benched, Giorgos Giakoumakis starts for Celtic against Real Madrid

Furuhashi benched, Giakoumakis starts for Celtic against Real Madrid

Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis has replaced Kyogo Furuhashi in the starting lineup for Tuesday's Champions League Group H encounter at home to holders Real Madrid.

Furuhashi was withdrawn in just the fifth minute of the 4-0 Old Firm derby win over Rangers on Saturday due to a shoulder injury.

The Japan international trained with the first team on Monday, but Ange Postecoglou has decided to bench the 27-year-old and instead hand Giakoumakis a start up front, with the Greek forward joining Liel Abada and Jota in a three-man attack.

Giakoumakis is one of two changes made to Celtic's first XI, with Moritz Jenz starting at centre-back at the expense of Carl Starfelt, who is ruled out with a knee injury.

Josip Juranovic, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Greg Taylor all join Jenz in the back four, while Matt O'Riley, Reo Hatate and captain Callum McGregor retain their places in centre-midfield.

As for Real Madrid, the likes of Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and David Alaba are all handed starts for the 14-time European champions, while summer signing Antonio Rudiger is on the bench.

Celtic XI: Hart; Juranovic, Carter-Vickers, Jenz, Taylor; O'Riley, McGregor, Hatate; Abada, Giakoumakis, Jota

Subs: Bain, Siegrist, Bernabei, Ralston, Welsh, Turnbull, Haksabanovic, Mooy, McCarthy, Forrest, Furuhashi, Maeda

Real Madrid XI: Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Alaba, Mendy; Kroos, Tchouameni, Modric; Valverde, Benzema, Vinicius Jr

Subs: Lunin, Lopez, Nacho, Hazard, Asensio, Camavinga, Vazquez, Ceballos, Rodrygo, Rudiger, Mariano
