Brendan Rodgers "very proud" of Celtic performance in Bayern Munich clash

Rodgers "very proud" of Celtic display

Brendan Rodgers has declared himself proud of his Celtic side following Tuesday night's 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The Hoops put in an impressive performance against the German champions, but two defensive lapses saw Kingsley Coman and Javi Martinez get onto the scoresheet.

The result sees Celtic knocked out of the competition, but Rodgers remains hopeful of finishing third in Group B to seal a place in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

"The level of composure and quality we showed out there, I was very proud of the team and we caused them lots of problems," Rodgers told BBC Sport.

"Bayern are a quality team, but we are disappointed with the goals and you get punished at this level. But we looked like a team who are developing at this level and there are so many positives to take from the game.

"It is another step for us being a competitive side, and playing football, at this level. Now we have to finish these two games and, if we can get European football after Christmas, that will be an achievement."

Celtic's next Champions League game sees them travel to Paris Saint-Germain on November 22 before wrapping up the group stage with a home encounter against Anderlecht on December 5.
