Carlisle United sign Danny Butterfield

Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott believes that Danny Butterfield's knowledge of the game will benefit his side in League One.

Abbott has signed the 33-year-old on a free transfer after he was released by Southampton at the end of the season, and the United boss has praised Butterfield's consistency over the past few seasons.

The 49-year-old told the club's official website: "He knows the game inside out.

"Danny has played consistently well at a high level. He has that bit of knowledge and experience."

Butterfield only made two appearances for the Saints last season.
