Cardiff City moved up to third in the Championship table after a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.
It was the home side who started the match the stronger but the first real chance fell to Nottingham Forest after 19 minutes when Marcus Tudgay brought a fine save from David Marshall.
Forest grew into the half as the match progressed but neither side could conjure any real clear-cut chances, with each goalkeeper rarely tested.
Cardiff began the second period in much better form and arguably should have taken the lead through Peter Whittingham after 55 minutes, but his drive from the edge of the area drifted wide.
Cardiff eventually broke the deadlock after 70 minutes when Joe Mason produced a fine header from a Peter Whittingham cross to send the Welsh side ahead.
Forest drop to 20th while Cardiff harbour real hope of promotion this season.
