Injury-time Mark Hudson own goal gifts Wolverhampton Wanderers win

An own goal by Mark Hudson in second-half injury time ends Cardiff City's unbeaten start to the season and gifts Wolves a 1-0 win in today's Championship clash at Molineux.

An own goal by Mark Hudson in second-half injury time broke Cardiff City hearts and gifted Wolverhampton Wanderers a 1-0 win in today's Championship clash at Molineux.

The game proved exciting in the opening stages, as both teams exchanged probing attacks right from the start.

After just two minutes, Rajiv van la Parra troubled the Cardiff defence with a dangerous cross, while three minutes later, Matt Doherty was forced to clear the ball from under his own crossbar.

On the quarter-hour mark, Bakary Sako's corner caused havoc after the ball bounced off Cardiff's far post.

Despite Wolves dominating possession, the away side went on to counter through Adam Le Fondre, who dragged a shot just wide of Carl Ikeme's goal in the 21st minute.

The home side continued to trouble the Bluebirds defence throughout the rest of the first half, with Sako and Van la Parra proving consistently dangerous.

Wolves maintained their dominance into the second half, but Cardiff were able to launch attacks of their own from time to time, with Peter Whittingham and Hudson troubling Ikeme just before the hour.

Midway through the second half, Doherty set Kevin McDonald free around 30 yards from the opposition goal, but the 25-year-old fired over the crossbar.

In the 77th minute, controversy ensued as the Cardiff players claimed that Guido Burgstaller's shot hit a Wolves hand, but the referee waved away the appeals.

Just as it seemed that the game would finish level, a low McDonald cross in the 91st minute was deflected into the Bluebirds net by Hudson to end the home side's unbeaten start to the season.
