Preview: Cagliari Calcio vs. AC Milan

Cagliari Calcio vs. AC Milan

AC Milan will attempt to continue their five-match unbeaten run in Serie A when they travel to a resurgent Cagliari Calcio on Wednesday.

The home side have taken four points from their last two league games to sit in 12th position in the table, but they are just two points outside of the bottom three.

They will also enter the match full of confidence following a 4-0 win over Empoli last time out, but the Sardinians have not won any of their last 23 league meetings with Milan – losing 18 times in the process.

Milan, meanwhile, have won just two of their last six league matches, but just one defeat in the Serie A this season has left them in sixth spot in the table.

A win could take Milan into third position and they picked up all three points in their last away match, beating Hellas Verona 3-1. However, Milan were held to a 1-1 draw at the weekend by Fiorentina.

In total, there have been 66 Serie A meetings between these two sides, with Milan winning 35 times and losing just seven in the process.

Cagiliari boss Zdenek Zeman is not expected to make too many changes following his side's thumping win last time out, with scorers Marco Sau, Danilo Avelar and Albin Ekdal all likely to start.

Milan, meanwhile, could welcome Fernando Torres back into their first XI, but Adil Rami is not expected to split up the centre-back partnership of Alex and Cristian Zapata.

Nigel de Jong and Sulley Muntari, meanwhile, are both expected to start in central midfield for the former Italian champions.
